Pima Community College Center of Opportunity

Pima Community College Center of Opportunity received $80,710

Pima Community College Foundation has partnered with the Gospel Rescue Mission’s Center of Opportunity through a unique arrangement – one that we believe could be replicated in other communities across the country. Guests of the Center have access to training opportunities, taught on-site at the Center, in a variety of programs designed to provide a direct-to-employment career path in five focus areas: 1) Building & Construction Technology; 2) Culinary Arts; 3) Health & Safety; 4) Information Technology; and 5) Logistics / Truck Driving. Learners participating in the training programs have costs covered for tuition, faculty salaries, fees, books, supplies and uniforms (if required) allowing students to have no educational loan debt upon completion. The goal of the partnership is to provide a pathway out of poverty for those who are struggling to earn a sustainable living wage. Current enrollments are expected to reach 100 with growth anticipated to exceed 300 learners when all programs are fully enrolled. An investment by the Rotary Club of Tucson Foundation will ensure that many more men and women are able to improve their financial situation. Funding received up to $100,000 would ensure existing training programs are able to continue. With funding over $100,000, we would expand offerings to add skills-based training programs in other high-demand areas. Additionally, Pima Community College welcomes the support of Rotary member businesses that are interested in offering meaningful employment opportunities to individuals who complete trainings at the Center. Thank you for your consideration.

Wright Flight

The Mission of Wright Flight is to use the inherent motivational power of aviation as a stimulus for students to set and achieve higher goals in their educational and personal development. From the examples of aviation role models, we teach students that through commitment and hard work, they can achieve their own goal, earn the reward of exciting aviation-related activities and develop a more positive self-concept.

Sister Jose Women’s Center

Sister José Women’s Center Shelter Expansion Project will add 5,460 more safe nights of sleep for Tucson’s unsheltered women, including women living with multiple disabilities and age-related illness. Our low-barrier center provides women with a stable and safe environment to recuperate from the daily struggle of homelessness and extreme poverty. With this funding, Sister José Women’s Center will increase its overnight capacity by 35% and provide secure shelter for fifty-seven women, including their beloved companion pets, every night. Support services help women stabilize their health and begin the process of becoming permanently housed.

The Gregory School

Home of the annual Tucson Classics Car Show, the Gregory School is an independent, coeducational school serving students in grades 5 – 12. Our diverse learning community is the foundation for a high quality academic and social experience for all of our students.

We provide a $10,000 scholarship for a student to attend the Gregory School.
